baby barbour jacketsIn a couple weeks we will be celebrating my daughter's, my niece's, and my nephew's birthdays. Instead of the usual party at someone's house, the family voted to go out to eat. It will be another birthday celebration without a cake, candles, or Happy Birthday song. I wonder if those three honorees will notice the absence. It makes me sad. Are family traditions slowly dying to join my parents in another world? Have my family members become so sophisticated that birthday cakes and songs are too corny? I hope not and if I have any say, I will be hosting all the birthday parties in the family after our next planned restaurant outing. And, I will be sure there will be a cake (or two or threeone for each birthday person) and the traditional Happy Birthday songs at which they all roll their eyes.I have the remnants of several attempted blogs clogging up various corners of my desk. My son says tells me at times I talk in fragments, and then expect him to read my mind and fill in the blanks. I do. I brought him up that way and believe his intelligence level meets that criteria. So as I summarize several attempted blogs, cryptic notes and extraneous facts, well, I think you are intelligent also.IT Firms Where do we (hosting) fit in the IT arena? That IT word keeps on popping up, often in connection with the word "Telephone."So as I look at several acquisitions, including CenturyLink (via Savvis) picking up 700 IT employees and expanding internationally, Dimension Data, Hickory Tech et al, I really believe there is a trend beginning to take shape which will take several years to really blossom. I was considering paragraphs about how big the IT sector is (5th largest IT firm in Cincinnati does $35 million andthats the 27th largest US market) how it is fragmented, will never have consistent service offerings, and wishes it has your knowledge. Some IT firms offer a smattering of hosting type services. They will decide they need to provide more of these services to be able to compete. Big summary paragraph: more deals (M in the future involving IT firms either being bought, buying you or some layer in the cake. All this can enhance valuations. Side note: they will be enamored with all that aaS. At HostingCon a group of us were discussing the deal. Highly placed executives from prominent firms, executives in the know regarding both HostGator and EIG, from a variety of angles. During this discussion we did our mental gymnastics and spreadsheets (I love to see brains calculating and massaging data) and the conclusion was that all published estimates of an already highly valued transaction, were, understated the by some 20 percent.Energy This is the big Elephant in the room. This whole blog concept was spawned out of some research and articles I read regarding the number of power plants that are being shut down, early. Let's face the facts; you want, need and desire cheap energy. You consume almost 2% of the US power grid. No one wants to talk about it. In reality many people look at the hosting data center industry as firms like Amazon, Apple and Microsoft bad guys. All of which were recently involved in a coordinated Greenpeace protest. The overall perception is the hosting industry uses a lot of electricity. You do. Regardless if your company is green, carbon neutral or uses far superior energy efficient servers; you use electricity and are part of the problem. Forgetting the green and political mumbo jumbo there are some big questions: What do you do if electric power costs increase dramatically? What do you do if power is not available for growth?I am am M guy. If it affects profits or growth it carries over into valuations.Internet Infrastructure Coalition. I met this group at the inauguration kick off event at HostingCon. The goal is to "represent the interests of our industry on Capitol Hill and relevant regulatory agencies." Sort of getting back to that seat at the table theme. Amazon, Apple and Microsoft have agendas that are often different than many smaller operators. Last paragraph: you need a strong organization, success is a factor of being ready and experience. Companies should join now rather than waiting for the SOS signal. There are a lot of great reasons.A blog is an Internet website, online public diary or Web journal, that is constantly updated for others to read, enjoy and hopefully share. It usually provides a personal commentary, current news update or showcase of remarkable information. Without surprise, blogs have been created for a multitude of applications, including business, corporate, personal and educational. Why are they so versatile? Because nothing facilitates conversation, communication and community, the way that blogging does. But, beware. It does not involve selling products or actively promoting brands, but rather is just about sharing oneself; with the visiting audience. Furthermore, overly ambitious bloggers should heed a stern warning from Ramadama Dingdong. The Swamp Ass has said on many occasions, that poorly maintained blog, that does not provide current, meaningful and/or relevant content; has little or no value to consumers. In fact, he continues to say that and brands have an obligation and responsibility, to provide the online community and their loyal consumer audience, with rich meaningful content that is remarkable; and inspires them to Like, +1 and/or share. from satisfying your demanding consumer audience, with consistent and meaningful content for your blog, you and your staff members will continue to be aware, active and knowledgeable in relevant and current affairs; related to your business and industry. By building and maintaining a positive image in the community, as a recognized, dependable and credible source of industry information, friends and followers will visit your website more frequently; and routinely engage in conversation with you. As such, the greatest of the benefits of blogging is that it allows businesses to be closer to their customers, and provides them with an opportunity to unintrusively promote their products or services, enforce their brand, and motivate consumers to contribute to the community conversation; or contact the company directly. cheap barbour jackets Suppose that the salespeople have been trained to negotiate well. Or perhaps they have a limit to what price they can drop to. In either case, the results are the same. Salespeople do the best they can to hold the line. Do they get rewarded for that? Nope. What happens is that at the end of the periodmonth, quarter, or yearit's usually the same, and the organization is short of the projections. Managers finally get off their collective behinds and go out to do what is necessary to close the gap. That means closing business with customerswhatever it takes. _________________ cheap barbour jackets |
